Riding the Pinellas Trail End to End

The Pinellas Podcast TeamJune 14, 2026 7 min read

The Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail runs nearly 50 miles through the county. Here's how to tackle it, one segment at a time.

The Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail is one of the longest urban trails in the Southeast, stretching close to 50 miles from St. Petersburg up to Tarpon Springs along a former railroad corridor. Whether you ride, walk, or skate, it's the backbone of active life in Pinellas.

The best segments

  • St. Pete to Gulfport: urban, artsy, and easy to combine with a meal
  • Seminole to Largo: shaded and steady, great for families
  • Dunedin to Tarpon Springs: scenic, with charming downtowns at each end
  • Honeymoon Island spur: ride straight to the beach

Riding it smart

The trail crosses many roads, so obey signals and stay alert at intersections. Bring water, sunscreen, and a patch kit. Morning rides beat the heat and the afternoon storms that pop up in summer.

Trail etiquette

  • Keep right, pass on the left, and call out when you pass
  • Leash pets and keep them to one side
  • Use lights if you'll be out at dawn or dusk
  • Yield to slower traffic

Make it a destination

The magic of the Pinellas Trail is that it connects real downtowns. Park in Dunedin, ride to Tarpon Springs for lunch, and roll back. Every segment ends somewhere worth stopping.

You don't have to ride all 50 miles at once. Pick a segment, and let the trail show you the county.
