Ranked among America's top beaches, Fort De Soto is also a historic fort, a bird sanctuary, and a camper's paradise.
Fort De Soto Park is the largest park in the Pinellas County system and arguably its greatest natural treasure. Spread across five interconnected islands, it offers award-winning beaches, a historic fort, miles of trails, and some of the best wildlife watching in the region.
The beaches
North Beach regularly ranks among the best beaches in the country, with calm, shallow water perfect for families. East Beach faces the bay and is quieter. There's even a dedicated dog beach so the whole family can join.
History and nature
The park's namesake is a historic coastal fort you can explore, complete with preserved artillery. Beyond the fort, Fort De Soto sits on a major bird migration route, making it a world-class spot for birdwatching, especially in spring and fall.
