Fenced dog parks, a dog beach, and shady trails — the pup-approved guide to getting outside with your best friend.
Pinellas County is wonderfully dog-friendly, with dedicated dog parks, a beach where pups can splash in the Gulf, and plenty of leashed trails. Here's where to head with your four-legged companion.
Fort De Soto Paw Playground and dog beach
Fort De Soto is the crown jewel for dog owners. It has a fenced dog park with separate small- and large-dog areas, plus a dedicated dog beach where your pup can wade into the Gulf. Rinse stations make cleanup easy afterward.
Neighborhood dog parks
Most Pinellas cities maintain fenced, off-leash parks with shade, water, and separate areas by dog size. They're a great way to burn energy and let your dog socialize on hot days when the pavement is too warm for long walks.
Leashed trails and waterfront paths
The Pinellas Trail and many waterfront promenades welcome leashed dogs. Early morning and evening are best in summer — check the pavement with your hand before heading out, and always carry water for both of you.
Dog-day essentials
- Fresh water and a collapsible bowl
- Waste bags (and use them!)
- A towel for sandy, salty pups
- Proof of vaccination, required at most parks
Few things beat a Gulf sunset with a happy, tired dog. Get out there.
